I've actually been at a presentation where somebody's cell phone goes off and the guy started talking on it loudly because the presenter was making it too hard to hear. I believe summary execution is in order.

This also belongs in the Holidays and Absences thread, but since it's all music I'm putting it here.

Traveled down to Austin to see my family for Christmas, while meanwhile some friends of mine who had never been to Texas were down for vacation.  One place we visited was Gruene's Music Hall in Gruene, Texas; the oldest such place IN texas.  I have to admit this is the most Texas thing I've ever done, and I grew up in the damn place.  A band called Two Tons of Steel was playing.  Let's give them a listen, shall we?  Near the end you'll get a peek of my all-too-adorable blonde niece.

The kid has a way of charming the socks off a whole room.  My sister and brother-in-law never worry about her: you could drop her off in the middle of an unknown continent and she'd do just fine.  Here she is at work:

and now back for a bit more of the band, who were really astoundingly good for a $5 cover charge:

The next night we went to Austin's famed Sixth Street.  Austin claims to be the live music capital of the world, and for someone who reveres New Orleans I found that hard to swallow until I started frequenting the place.  Let's drop in on some blues in Maggie Maes:

Okay, the wellspring of American music deserves another visit:

Finally we ended up at Pete's Piano Bar, which may not have invented the concept of dueling pianos, but definitely perfected it.

If you want a musical tour of the US, you can't do better than starting in New Orleans for roots Jazz, Zydeco and swamp rock; then heading over to Austin for Country, Blues and southern Rock. I'm not such a fan of the more straight ahead New York jazz, unfortunately...but it's mainly what I've got so I make do until I get a holiday, then I go ape-shit.

Was it normal in the 60's for women to wear miniskirts/short-shorts with snow outside?

Thanks for sharing the music experiences there Halfwise, it looks fun.

I went to a basketball game tonight tonight, and afterwards we stopped by a couple music venues. My brother got us into this place called the Catalyst in Santa Cruz, where this rock group from the 70s was playing. Y & T? Does anyone know who that is? Anyway, they were very 70s. Nice big hair, 4-minute drum solos, etc.

Anyway, it was not my cup of tea at all, and now I have a headache, but I just thought I'd mention it. Smile

Beggining to sound really good. Looking forward to his new album in April. At least one good thing to come out of the Trump presidency. Very Happy

If I could have one wish fulfilled in life it'd be the gift of music - this is 7 mins, but have a tea/coffee/buckie, sit back and listen to the magic. If I have posted this before, my apologies - still worth a repost Smile
