Beautiful cabins Blue, and Az!

I think drywall, or sheetrock, or gypsum board, does work as an indicator that a cabin is not so much a cabin as small house. A cabin should be wooden, inside and out, and a little rough around the edges with a wood-stove in it.

But then, that's rather cabin-snobbish isn't it? We can't all afford fine wooden interiors in our cabins. What was once the affordable way to build a cabin: out of whatever trees are nearby, is only an option now-a-days for those with specialized knowledge about rustic, do-it-yourself milling: a kind of skill that is unknown to most people. The new affordable is stick-framed out of 2x out of lumber salvaged off a job-site! That's what your common person can handle these days.

Sure, my "small house" will have running water, and electricity, and heating perhaps, and dry-wall inside, and it's secluded but not in the middle of wilderness. Does that mean it doesn't deserve to be called a cabin? I don't think so. I think my stubborn refusal to use nailguns and my insistence on hand-carving the eaves and my having to carry all the materials up through the orchard from the drive-way and the general do-it-by-myself ethos (an ethos of necessity mostly) means that the building is in spirit more of a cabin than any more beautiful, isolated structure that some yahoo with more money than sense over-paid some company to come in and slap together so that said yahoo could have a place to shoot elk from and bang his mistresses during the holidays.

Besides, a proper cabin is erected, that's the important part. It doesn't matter if you use the finest of cedars, or the sturdiest of oak, and build the thing in the middle of the most pristine of forests. There's still no guarantee with all those fancy materials and locations that you're going to end up with a really satisfying erection, and that's exactly what I'm on my way to getting here! So there!

If you built it yourself and it's in the woods, it's definitely a cabin. Nod And though cabins may have an exalted subset of log cabins you've still earned the right to call it a cabin.

Razz
I totally agree with you. I could really fill this post with so many double entendre's but, I shall resist & keep my ladylike stance unblemished, {{{ Christ its hard!! }}} Over here in Blighty there's a program turned up on TV called "Timber Kings", its interesting, sort of. Who am I kidding, After you've seen one you've seen them all, same old story Wink Rolling Eyes

The fascia is up, and I finished the roof just in time for a week of rain. Note: most of the cabin is not yet painted. Also, there will be a door eventually.

Hey neat Az, I just watched a movie the other night about a Canadian folk painter who lived to be a little old lady in a little old house: covered inside with all her art!

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3721954/

Sally Hawkins and Ethan Hawke are both very good in it.

Norc, I'd say this is the place for it if you do have a picture.

That's looking really good, Forrest! Now if you just wink at some suitable old lady painter you can get everything you want!

That looks incredible, Forest! Would love to see some shots of what the interior loft area looks like now if/when you've got some. Nod

Eh, it's the same as before. Plumbing and electrical have to be done before anything else inside is going to change much. I'm not a plumber or an electrician, but I'll get it done eventually.
