Its annoying when, after you've been stroking & rubbing & bending it to your will, you lean back & the bloody thing collapses !
Need to tighten the nuts, tho sometimes you need to insert something to keep it rigid...

I can't really believe you are having a cabin erection without suspecting the consequences, Forest. Somewhere other than Forumshire, maybe no consequences (and that's even debatable), but IN Forumshire!?!?!? Smugdog

Uff da, so much rain! I've been house-bound, and then stuck, and then at a loss as to how to get the plumbing done.

But here's the progress to date:

I boxed in around the bottom of the structure to create an enclosed space. Partially this is so the critters can't get it, and partially so I don't have a draft underneath.

And then I stapled down this plastic mesh to hold up the insulation. I've seen it sag in houses that I've worked under before, but I think I did a good enough job stapling and the insulation is snug enough that it should do the job for many years.

And the luvverly itchy fiberglass insulation of hell:  Evil or Very Mad

And the finished plywood sub-floor, all set for framing!  Smile

Somehow the thought of floor insulation never occurred to me, shows how many houses I've built. The only bit of practical knowledge I possess on the topic is that for the roof, the vapor lock layer goes under the insulation rather than above. Heard a friend tell the sad story of the consequences of getting that backwards....

I would think that plywood needs to be covered post-haste before rain hits and warps it!

Heyo, two walls are up!

I'm getting some windows for cheap from my brother's boss, which is wonderfully helpful for my finances. The only thing is that they are rather large windows: two of them are 5'x5', and another is 4'x5'. (So around 1.5 meters on a side.)

You can see the rough opening for a couple of the windows here. The space on the front wall that is missing studs is where the kitchen window is going to be, but I needed to work out some details on the loft before I finished the framing there.

Edit: Oh yeah, I didn't get a picture, but what I did was lay out all my studs on the floor, nail them all together, and then lift them up into place. It's the standard way to do it when you can. With the pre-cut studs the nailing together was a breeze. I hand-nailed and am not particularly swift, but the second wall only took me an hour to slap together.

Those are 9 foot walls. I was going to go for 10 to allow for maximum loft space, but when I nailed a 10 foot board up there to see how it looked I realized just how ridiculously high a 10 foot wall is! This shorter height will be considerably easier to work with when it comes to the roof framing, I think.

If you don't fill in the A-frame the lower roof will be okay. but if you have something flat above your head you'll feel compressed if it's low.

Very cool to see the frame coming together like that. Nod Will there be a 9-foot ceiling covering the whole cabin with just a ladder leading up into the loft space, or will it be at least partially open to below?

I like the half loft idea! Forest, go for it! Adds some nice variety in a small space.

Cool! It's starting to take shape! Nod
I'm looking forward to seeing a few rafters (and joists?) go up to get an idea of what you've got in mind for the roof. (A hint from experience: a steeper roof gives you more loft space, but ain't much fun to work on..... Everything comes down to trade-offs.)
