Assuming this forum is still active when the series enters production, I wonder if we will get any old members (or even new ones) returning? It was nice to see Trans drop in the other day...

The most interesting thing about this TV series for me isn't the new story-lines or characters the writers will have to invent, it's the likely involvement of a whole new cast and technical crew, Peter Jackson defined middle earth on screen for a whole generation (taking inspiration from John Howe and Alan Lee's artwork in the process) I'm intrigued to see if the next lot take things in a different direction visually, and whether the techniques/format of TV production effect the mood of middle earth that viewers have become accustomed to.

That's a separate thing: Tolkien-inspired pornos.

I'm hoping for a fresh slate, personally. I don't think they need to have a radically new design aesthetic -- as you mention, Jackson's films built upon and expanded an already established look and feel from Lee's and Howe's previous artwork -- but for the most part I'm curious to see what a new creative team makes of Middle-earth. I wouldn't mind seeing an even larger Minas Tirith that's closer to the book description, although doing so would probably require the use of CGI models rather than "big-atures" and I don't know how good that would look even with Amazon money.

I wonder about New Line being involved as they seemed to have a specific look, style, and aren't they based in NZ? will they be hiring original LOTR crews? interested to see what the style will be.

Was it really too small? Except for the empty Pellenor I felt Minas Tirith was among the most faithful sets of the series.
