Re: Future releases
Speaking of Tarantino, the first trailer for his upcoming film Django Unchained was released today. I haven't followed the news surrounding this one too closely since I don't want to get spoiled, but if the trailer is anything to go by (and that's always an if) it should be fantastic, Basterds-esque fun.
Re: Future releases
I dont know a thing about that but it looks excellent. One to look out for at xmas.

Could be fun. Especially for old gamers like me.

I've heard this from a number of people and now I'm scared to go see it myself.
Re: Future releases
Im finding myself in less and less of a hurry to go see Prometheus the more I hear people talk about it. Not the sort of word of mouth campaign they were aiming for I am sure!

Out of the 5 Alien movies this would have to be the worst, not even the 3D could save it.
Don't think there was a scary moment in it.

Re: Future releases
Holy crap.
Was not expecting such a negative review even now.
...I almost have to go see it for myself now just to see if it possibly measures up.

Re: Future releases
Seems the Robocop remake is getting underway.
The cast is looking quite good but I wonder if it will retain the social satire of the original?
Samuel L Jackson has signed up to join the cast of the upcoming remake of the 1987 action film Robocop, according to reports.
The star will play "charismatic media mogul" Pat Novak, the Hollywood Reporter said.
Swedish actor and The Killing star Joel Kinnaman has already been cast as police officer Alex Murphy who is brought back to life as a cyborg.
Gary Oldman will also star as the scientist who creates him.- BBC
I dont remember either a 'media mogul' or Oldmans character in the original.
The scientist who made him was a hot women was not it not? (Or I may just have been a teenager at the time and she was just a women!).
And wasn't the bad guy the head of OCP or something- a huge multinational arms dealer not a media mogul?
If he is a media mogul I wonder if they will keep the ads for cheap baragian bin prostitutes with its tagline "I'd buy that for a dollar!"

I saw that Aliens film with Winona Ryder last night, I felt really sorry for the poor alien at the end, it was really cute.

Re: Future releases
I watched Prometheus with my brother a couple days ago. He really liked it (said it was even better than Alien) but I was rather disappointed. Production design and several of the performances were great, but the writing sucks ass and the themes are undeveloped. I felt like the film was bogged down by trying both to be an Alien-style horror movie and a religious/philosophical movie with something to say about Big Issues. It failed at doing either; there wasn't enough horror to be a horror movie (though one scene in particular was definitely horrific) and it just felt too small and confined outside of a few scenes to be a big religiously symbolic movie. Plus their religious commentary is ridiculous.
Fassbender stole the show (mancrush confirmed
) but I honestly can't recommend this movie to anyone. I would have when I walked out of the theatre but the more I think about it the more frustrating this mess becomes. It shouldn't be surprising that one of the creators of Lost wrote the script.
- Spoiler:
- In an interview Ridley Scott explains that the Space Jockey from Alien is part of a race called Engineers who created human life, but now they want to destroy humanity because Jesus was a Space Jockey and they're mad that we crucified him. It's even alluded to in the film a number of times, including an image of a crucified Xenomorph.

Seriously.

Re: Future releases
Ey, LOST was great!
Apart from that, however, I agree with your entire post (and yes, Fassbender made that film
).
