That's a very good point Eldo. I remember an ex-con I used to work with in the cannery, on being called a rude name,  explaining that "It's only gay if you take it." (Note: there were probably better answers....  )

Meanwhile, well into the 19th century it was normal for several people, sometimes stangers, to share a bed for warmth(segregated by gender of course!), giving us the phrase "strange bedfellows". Clearly until Victorian times snuggling didn't count! Laughing

Laurel and Hardy- they shared a bed all the time, and as many of their early films were made during the great depression I doubt that was unusual at all.
I seem to remember Moby dick starts with the main character going to his room in the inn, where he is renting the bed for the night and sharing it with a stranger who is renting the other half.

Not just any stranger either. Queequeg,  A tatooed giant with a razor sharp harpoon and a collection of human heads. Bedfellows don't come much stranger. Shocked

Well that kind of explains why I couldn't remember it! That sounds like the sort of noise that comes from under my kilt after the fifth barrel has gone down.  No

It is always an honor to see Orwell. Hope your family is well. You don't suppose you could appear on Boarder Patrol and wave at us as you are arresting someone trying to smuggle croissants or some such at the boarder? I would love love to see you. say yes......pleeeze
