Stand-up Comedy

Post by Pettytyrant101 on Sat Mar 10, 2012 12:02 am

Nothing like a good chuckle when the crabbit meters are over taxed by life (helped along by barrels of Tin's finest buckie of course), so here's a place to put your favourite standup comics.

Being a good Scotshobbit and sworn at birth to always promote anything Tartan here's three of my favourite Scottish standups.

Frankie Boyle- and why you should NEVER, EVER take your two teenage boys to a Frankie Boyle show and get front row seats.

The New Pretender Kevin Bridges

And the Old Master the Big Yin

And a doc on him interspersed with stand up. (He's a stand up legend he deserves this extra vid!)

So come on post your favourite stand up comics or stuff about them. You dont have to be patriotic like me {{you traitors to your own kind}}

PT, thanks for the Billy Connolly! He is hilarious, especially when he explains atomic theory. I love when he yells at hecklers.

Please enjoy the Dom Irrera video. I opened for him in 1988 and he did this honk about speaking Italian, which makes me laugh to this very day.

You got to open for stand-ups in clubs- nice one! Any backstage humorous tales?

I worked with Andy Dick, who was as unpleasant as he appears to be in this sketch. Very weird guy. Not funny, except in the "Something in the fridge smells funny" sense. When people like this are successful in show business, it makes me glad I was NOT successful!

I worked for about three years (also with a partner, performing song PARODIES, no surprise there), and in our best year we made as a duo enough money for one of us to live on at a sub-poverty level.

Always been in 2 minds about Chubby Brown- I think its a particular English humour perhaps- I dont mind his rude and crude stuff but I am a lot less comfortable when he talks about race.
In my job years ago I used to take elderly clients on holiday and Englands sea resorts and the north of England were the most common destinations- went to a lot of working mens clubs and heard a fair bit of the Chubby Brown style of comedy act and the inherent racist tones in it always made me uncomfortable.
The last time I was at one is the one and only time in my life I have ever been a heckler! Was at a working mans club just outside Blackpool with a client and we were near the front. I was easy to spot as I was half the age then of most folk there and I was probably not looking comfortable at the material- so the comic decided to bring me in on the act, asked me my name, took the piss out of me being Scots and asked me what I was doing there- I told him I was there for work not pleasure which given his act was just as well- got the biggest laugh of the night. Very Happy

The Irish guys a blast from the past- cant even remember his name but I used to love him as a kid.

One of my favourite comedians who I discovered by chance at a comedy club in California on holiday once and I wish I was as funny as her (though this video in GCC is nowhere near as good IMO)

I couldnt just pick one out- so heres a few.

The War on Terror.

The Arab Spring

Iraq- British Amabassador to Washington

We're All Poor- the Upper Middle Classes -the Chattering Classes- chatter (ok this one is a sketch)

The terrorism sketch is brilliant. Can't believe it's mainly improvised!

edit: I have to work my way through the rest, if they're all as good as the first I'll be hunting these folks down for more.

Classic Cooper

I backed a horse at 20 to 1, it came in at 20 past 4. It was that late it tiptoed back to the stable.
Very funny man.
