Have you read the books Norc? There's some definitely evil people there, though I'm not sure there's any definitely good ones. It's more black and grey than black and white. Razz

I think Carly's right, nearly all the Starks were good in an almost pure sense....which is why GRRM killed them. (or twisted them, as happened to Catelyn after her near death experience).

This is one of the few cases where the books and films are pretty close. Of course you miss out on some things, but the flavor is very similar.

I could never get into the TV series but the first three books are some of the finest fantasy I've ever read. Sadly I'm not sure the series is going to live up to those in the end. I hope that the TV series will at least be able to fix some of the pacing problems from the post-Storm of Swords books.

Kind of odd you couldn't get into the TV series, any speculation why? Less literary feeling?

I'm sure the pacing will be less of an issue, even if they follow the books due to the episodic nature of TV.

the book is similar, but it's more like 1/3 of the way through the book before you're addicted.

Part of it's because I don't care for watching stuff week-to-week. I did watch the first three episodes on HBO as they aired, but I had mixed feelings about them and after I feel behind I didn't have enough interest to catch up with the show again. I wasn't watching much TV at all during that time though, which may have played a role. Still, I tried getting back into the series a number of months later and it just felt off. Part of it was that all the swearing and nudity felt less like a reasonable adaptation of the book and more like typical HBO pandering, which was distracting. I also didn't care for a number of the actors, although Peter Dinklage was brilliant.

I hear the second season is better but I haven't watched any of that.

A planet where people don't like pandering. Wink

And I've watched most of the first season (with a gap of several months in the middle) and it just didn't get me that interested. There are a lot of series much higher on my backlog.

I agree, the gratuitous sex scenes get a bit boring after a while.
