Fandoms

Post by Norc on Fri Mar 29, 2013 7:34 pm

Things you should NEVER say to different fandoms (feel free to add your own)
Whovians: I skipped nine.
Potterheads: They're just books.
Tolkienites: Why didn't the eagles just drop them off?
Merlinians: You must have known it was going to end like that.
Hunters: I skipped the first three seasons to meet cas.
Disney: Those are kids movies
Tributes: Oh there's a love triangle? So it's the new Twilight.
Sherlockians: John's straight.
Beatlemaniacs: Ringo is untalented
Wholigans: the WHO? xD
Floydians: "We Don't Need No Education" is my favorite song by them!
MJ fans: He was a fucking pedophile, how can you love him so much?

Fandom sucks.

Fandom nicknames suck even more.

Fandom nicknames that don't make sense unless you're familiar with the work in question suck the most.

That concludes this Internet public service announcement.

Nah, but seriously, the best way to stop enjoying something you love is to join its fandom. True fact. Nod

NB I got most of those but I'm not sure what "Hunters" refers to.

supernatural i guess (cas=castiel)

i wholeheartedly disagree with u there. don't judge the fandom by the fans and don't judge the fan by the fandom.
I've found that i really love being part of a fandom. The Sherlockians are as brilliant as they are crazy. there is a sort of comunity feeling, like joining a religious sect.

Trust me, I've been part of various fandoms for several years. The community is part of the attraction, but there are a lot of downsides to most fandoms, including cliques and tunnelvision.

I'm glad you've had good experiences with the phenomenon though. And obviously I wouldn't still be here if I wasn't getting something from fandom myself. That, and once you're in it's hard to get out. Razz

Potterhead? Sounds positvely unhygenic! Mad

I suppose Id say I was a Trekkie, a Whovian, Tolkien fan obviously.
I like Sherlock a lot but Im not a fan in the same way of it, I just really enjoy it.

I think Who fans are the most uptight and sometimes downright anally retentive, Sherlock fans are the most fun and creative, and Tolkien fans are the most serious and earnest.

How dare you Mrs Figg. I am just as uptight and downright anally retentive about Tolkien too. Mad

(and not sure about Who fans not being creative- a quick look at Who stuff on youtube and stuff like the Fan Orchestra seem pretty creative)

nah Sherlock stuff is wild. off the wall loopy and funny. they are chilled out, they have no axes to grind like Who fans. some of the Who stuff is nasty.

I like all Who, even bad Who.
I can even watch episodes with Rose in them! (Just not too many at once)
And right now, for my tastes, Im in a second golden era of Who goodness.
Fun for me.
If you dont mind me saying Mrs Figg you are far more negative and attacking about current Who than I am about any time period of Who.
You dislike it seems Matt Smith, Karen and Arthur, and everything Moffat writes.

'If you dont mind me saying Mrs Figg you are far more negative and attacking about current Who than I am about any time period of Who'. Petty

you have got to be pulling my plonker. You attack Rose every 5 minutes, you never shut up about how much you dislike her almost obssessively. I dont normally comment on the terrible 3some, because they bore me and I cant be bothered unless you start having a go at Rose Tennant and RTD which you do a LOT. you always have a snide comment about them. talk about hypocracy.

Well I dislike Rose as a character- but during her time on the show there still some of my favourite episodes despite that- and many of my favourie scenes are in that time period too, just in not very good episodes.
So I dont hate the entire thing, all the writers and everyone in it as you seem to of current Who.

Mass Effect fans: have fun choosing which color to explode the galaxy with.

(It's also why I'll never "join" the Mass Effect fandom. Seriously go to the Bioware Social Network for like ten minutes and you'll question your own humanity.)

See what I mean?- thats already more negative and a sweeping a statement than I would make about any period of Who. That tars the entire last 2 and a half series of Who negatively.

The Rose period isnt my favourite Who era by a long way, but there was still enough Doctor Who stories to keep me interested even when I disliked the companions.

and like I said. Who fans are uptight.

I dont give a flying fuck about the current series of Who, thats my opinion, deal with it. its people being negative and hammering home their opinions like you are that put me off ever watching Dr Who ever again. my compliments to the chef.
