Artwork inspired by Tolkien

Post by azriel on Sun Apr 07, 2013 1:54 pm

I have 2 jigsaw puzzles that I enjoy doing, They are beautifully drawn, in rich colours & delicate detail, & inspired by the works from Tolkien. They are drawn by the artist Rodney Matthews. Does anyone else have artists or art that they are fond of ?
treebeard

Hobbit

spider

smaug

Balrog

Wraith, from cover of an LP.
Great goblin
I think Rodney Matthews does beautiful work, theres plenty on Google Images. very surreal.

I love those Azriel, how I wish PJ had used visuals like that for The Hobbit film, very magical. Is the second one Beorns Hall or Baggend? I cant quite make it out.

I'm a huge fan of Ted Nasmith's work (the artist who painted our forum header Smile )

Here's a few of his paintings (you might have to zoom out a little):

"Rivendell"

"Last sight of Hobbiton"

"An unexpected morning visit"

"Durin I discovers the Three Peaks"

There are loads more on his web page - http://tednasmith.mymiddleearth.com/

Very Happy He really is a great artist. I'm particularly fond of how he manages to portray landscape that vanishes into the distance. And water, like in the last picture you posted - wonderful Very Happy

As long as he doesn't show their faces they're fine, in my opinion. But, I agree - I too love his paintings because of the landscapes

All these apart from the Balrog, are by Donato Giancola, the pic of Tolkien is full of little details I wish i could find a larger version. The cups have Silmaril patterns and the books are all his works, every detail like the map is perfect. He has the White Tree of Gondor on his chair.
