hugh jackman was awesome. the only problem i really had with the movie whas the end though
Spoiler:
if they changed the course of history and everything was fine, then they wouldn't have to send wolverine back to the future, leading the young-wolverine body to have no reason to be in the river..... yet he is.

I think you might have that backwards Norc.
I mean,
Spoiler:
They never sent Wolverine back to the future. They sent his mind back into his younger self in the 1970s from his future body. Once the actions his younger self took became successful the future self was no longer sent back because he didn't need to be. However, the memory of everything that happened in the film stayed in the mind of Wolverine which meant that... that, um... Wait so he knew who everyone was the whole time? But no. No he didn't.
Spoiler:
OK. Here's what happened then. Wolverine is sent back in time. The past is changed so the future is changed. Once the future is changed, Wolverine's mind reverts to his younger self. The older self then wakes up in the future with the knowledge of everything that has happened. Everything that happened in the movie (in the past) did happen, and everyone remembers everything that happened.
So it is not a mistake that Wolverine is at the bottom of the river. It is at the bottom of the river that his future self dies and his younger self retakes control.

Spoiler:
i think i get it now, but not because of you. so when everything is fixed, wolverine's older self leaves the body of his younger self. the younger self doesn't remember anything of what happens and continues on with the wolverine timeline (the one in the movies) then suddenly at some point later on, at the time of the alternative reality took place and he would have returned, only then does he remember everything that happened. he is the only one who remembers that apocalypse thing where everyone dies, but he has told xavier about it though. so when he walks into the office, that's when xavier tells him that wolverine succeeded. when wolverine was at the bottom of the ocean his older self went back to his older body now in a changed future.

I'm still confused as to why he "wakes up" so to speak in the future when he does.
Spoiler:
I mean, is the dystopian future we see at the beginning of the film occurring at the same time as the original trilogy? I don't see how that can be. So the exact time at which his future self returns to his body seems rather arbitrary.

Ah, so it is the same time in both universes, relatively. Thanks.
Although,
Spoiler:
the point at which Logan wakes up must be before the events in X-Men: The Last Stand. As characters who die in that film are still alive and present at the school.

I watched that & "Olympus Has Fallen", both were cack ! I dont feel interested in watching "Edge of Tomorrow" either, seems the same predictable tripe, I dont see Tom Cruise handling any other sort of role ? Its getting pretty 'samey', like "Oblivion".

I had the same thought about Edge of Tomorrow, but I've heard that it's better than it looks. I still couldn't muster the interest to see it last night, though, even amidst a pretty unpromising slate of movies.

I lean a bit too heavily on online review sites, but there is no way in hell that Edge of Tomorrow can disappoint as heavily as White House Down and Olympus Has Fallen.
The aggregate has spoken:
Gripping, well-acted, funny, and clever, Edge of Tomorrow offers entertaining proof that Tom Cruise is still more than capable of shouldering the weight of a blockbuster action thriller.

Vs.

White House Down benefits from the leads' chemistry, but director Roland Emmerich smothers the film with narrative clichés and choppily edited action.

and

It's far from original, but Olympus Has Fallen benefits from Antoine Fuqua's tense direction and a strong performance from Gerard Butler -- which might just be enough for action junkies.

And really, the current lineup in theatres (albeit, perhaps not the populist theatres) is not bad at all!
I can see complaining in, say, January or February. But there are some great films in several genres currently playing.

Edit: I just checked the crappiest theatre I know (in terms of taste) and 6 out of the 9 films showing were good and far above average.

Watched this film this afternoon, it was terrific ! Ralph Fiennes was the star of the show without a doubt, he was deliciously camp. Non stop fun all the way. Sublimely eccentric & a proper farce. Colourful & funny. If you like weird or even border line weird, I recommend this one, It told the whole story in a nutshell.

I really enjoyed The Grand Budapest Hotel but I thought it got pretty sad towards the end. I wasn't in a great emotional state when I saw it though. There are some great laughs, to be sure. Highly recommended either way.

Yes Eldo, I thought the ending was sad, thats the trouble with nostalgic type films the ending nearly always makes you feel 'lost' ?
I just loved how Fiennes kept calling people 'darling' etc, even soldiers ! He said 'fuck off' inoffensively also  Razz

Oh gosh now I really want to watch it too.
I meant to a while back, but I never saw it in theatres, so I guess I'll just have to get it on DVD sometime.

Wanted to see Grand Budapest Hotel, too. Never got around to it.

I did see that new Tom Cruise movie tonight, it was good. Entertaining, good effects and action, and I liked the "Groundhog Day" aspect.

I did see a bunch of teenaged couples going to see "The Fault in our Stars." Each of those boys is going to have to deal with a sobbing girl at the end of the night. Poor kids. Razz
