The skiing thing is potentially possible, I guess. It's possible in Oslo every now and then when it snows properly and they don't get around to spreading gravel.

Neither very practical or safe though. Particularly when there's any sort of traffic. And in the rain as well? Suicide sounds about right.

This is a picture from Oslos main street from just such a time.

Ringo/Petty - the building is 44 floors and about 700 feet. Guessing my floor is about 500 feet up.

So you Brits still think in terms of feet and miles, eh? I thought you would've gone all metric by now.

I'd say by default most folks are still feet and inches ect, but in practise most folks can do both.

Its sort of fascinating seeing how people adopt some things- I dont know anyone who measures their height in metres and centimetres, but you would buy a sheet of wood in metres.

It metric for some things and the old system for others- the things that are retained seem to be things relating to the individual- measurements of height and weight, and instances where the metric version sounds stupid or clumsy in the mouth- like 568ml - so people still tend to say a pint.

Dont know if its more metric in England or not.
