 is this too big an apple to bite ? The harder perfection is strived for the more away anyone gets from Tolkiens work ? Im wondering if people don't realise how intense LOTR's is until they read the books, The Sil included. Its not just a 'fantasy story' its a way of life, its a history, its so close to being real it practically IS. How can you repeat that ? how close can you get ?

Podcast from TORN (cliff and justin), talks about it, nobody else has confirmation. Here's a commentary on the podcast, not able to find independent verification.

Not sure why Shippey would be let go, but I can well imagine how impossible it is to get a group of prominent writers to agree on anything. They'd be better served to start with just a couple, then expand out as needed. Probably test pairs and trios of writers to sketch out story arcs and characters, then pick the one they like best. Just shoving a bunch of people together and telling them to come up with something is a recipe for chaos.

Within a week these people will have reporters pounding on their doors, and despite nondisclosure agreements something's gonna leak out. At the very least we'll have confirmation that they are no longer writing for the series.

Sort of incredible that the TORN message boards haven't lit up with this yet.

but wait...couldn't this be the "hiatus" that was talked about for after the first two episodes were shot? I can see it would be easier to let everyone go as they re-evaluate then hire who they think will work best now that they've seen everyone at work. Doesn't explain why they'd let Tom Shippey go though, unless it was just a general break for everyone except uppper management.

btw, was anyone else bothered that this guy doesn't seem to have read the books? The closest he's come is an audio book.

Yeah, I saw that one too, but it didn't have any more information than the first one I posted. And I still can't find any mention of this anywhere else. TORN message boards STILL haven't picked it up. What's with them?

Okay, I think the panic is over. The idea is that there is a 4-5 month hiatus betwen the first two episodes and the rest of filming in order to evaluate. It makes perfect sense to let everyone go during such a long time.

yep that makes sense, they do what GOT did when they realised the pilot for the show was rubbish, they shut it down and did a massive re-shoot. Its probably just some people misinterpreting stuff that goes on. Not that Amazon thinks its rubbish but they probably need to refine it or do market research.

In my lifetime such a man hath, to my knowledge, been seen thrice before; and after each sight of him followed evil days and the death of men.'"
