This ancient specimen found in Portugal is proof that they can! Imagine: it has been a food source for people throughout colonial times, the Roman empire, and was over a thousand years old when Jesus was born!
Oliveira do Mouchão, Mouriscas Portugal. 3350 years old. ( olive tree )

{{No fruit on this one, but I dont have to go so far to see it! The Fortingall Yew, in Perthshire Scotland.
No-one knows the exact age, experts place it between 2000-3000 years old but say it may be up to 5000 years old.
Either way it was there when the nearby Bronze Age settlement was on the go and its still there now in what is now a Church Yard (it may have been sacred before Christianity came along as most Churches were plonked on top of old worship sites, and this may account for its survival for all that time and yew was thought to have a few mystic properties in Scotland- both the Celtic tradtions and the Christain associated it with resurrection and new life from old and of transformation, similar to acacia). Still healthy now, they reckon its got a good few centuries left in it yet, and in fact recently though the tree is male, it produced a female branch complete with berries.
According to legend Pontius Pilate played as a child in its shade.}}

The story of Pilate's Scottish origins was set out most fully in an article published in the New York Times on 15 January 1899. It seems that between the Romans' first incursion into Britain and their later invasion, Ceasar Augustus dispatched envoys to establish diplomatic relations with some of the important British and Caledonian chieftains. These included a Caledonian chieftain called Metellanus, whose stronghold was at the head of Glen Lyon. A member of the Roman delegation to Metellanus's tribe fathered a child with a Caledonian woman, and this child subsequently returned to Rome with his father (and, possibly, his mother), and was brought up as Pontius Pilate.
As there appears to be no clear record of the circumstances of Pilate's parentage or birth, this story seems at least as likely as alternatives that would have him born in Tarragona in Spain or Forchheim in Germany. And if he was born in Fortingall, that would make him only the first of very many Scots who throughout history have travelled abroad to achieve high office in the service of other people's empires.- Undiscovered Scotland

Given that "Rob Roy" is Scottish, and that we have from impeccable sources that Pontius Pilate would have pronounced this "Wob Woy" (as in "Welease ... Wob Woy!") I think it's pretty clear Pontius Pilate could not have been Scottish. That's just good linear thinking.

There will have been tests.  I'm going to hazard 20 before I look at the spoiler.

Edit: Doh! I'm not going to say how many orders of magnitude I missed by.

{{There is a surprising amount of Scots on that list of reconstructions! But I often wonder how close these things are- I'd like to see them give a skeleton to them for reconstruction like this- only without telling them we know exactly what the person looked like with lots of photos of them- then compare their finished product with the real thing to get an idea of how accurate these techniques are. }}}

Don't forget the handful of near misses and horrible accidents when it comes to nukes, this incident in particular sounds terrifying:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1961_Goldsboro_B-52_crash

In 2011, Lt. Jack Revelle, the bomb disposal expert responsible for disarming the device, claimed "we came damn close" to a nuclear detonation that would have completely changed much of eastern North Carolina.[10] He also said the size of each bomb was more than 250 times the destructive power of the Hiroshima bomb, large enough to create a 100% kill zone within a radius of 8.5 miles (13.7 km)

In a now-declassified 1969 report, entitled "Goldsboro Revisited", written by Parker F. Jones, a supervisor of nuclear safety at Sandia National Laboratories, Jones said that "one simple, dynamo-technology, low voltage switch stood between the United States and a major catastrophe",

Didn't realise it's been 3 weeks since I last posted, been pretty busy of late (not that I mind, couldn't think of anyone else I'd enjoy spending so much time with as my GF I love you ), but hi everyone Wave

I wouldn't worry much about the annual bath Petty, summer's nearly over, give it a week or two and the rain showers will be back again... Wink
