Sherlock - BBC

Post by Kafria on Wed Jul 27, 2011 8:38 pm

Okay so it's not a fantasy story, but this is the most appropriate place to put it,

BBC repeating the first series, second ep on now, gonna watch ready for the next series and to see Martin Freeman!! yeah! Very Happy

Amazingly (for me) I enjoyed this. A mix of Moffatt and other guys writing works great and the acting is good. Although there are one or two moments when Freeman does his doleful loook to camera that was such a feature of The Office- he does it in everything I have seen him in, Sherlock was the first time I thought it was properly under control- hope he doesn't do it TH.

Now lookie here what I found! I was trying to find the Sherlock episode discussions I remember seeing somewhere (but ignored at the time to avoid spoilers) and I come across this poor little thread, all ignored and hidden away.

Perhaps we Sherlock newbies should make camp here and hope more more will come and join us? Smile

Only one episode her aired here yet, but it was love at first sight.
Loved loved loved the scene in the ambulance. I love you

Ooh, I'd forgotten about this thread! Very Happy If you're looking for the other Sherlock discussions though, they're in the main TV thread. They start here and go on for most of the rest of the thread. There are some spoilers, but most of them (for series two at least) are marked and hidden as such. Smile

Only one episode her aired here yet, but it was love at first sight.

I felt the same way! Heck, even a few YouTube clips shared by Petty was enough to get me interested. Razz I hope that you won't have to wait a long time for the second series to air as I think its even better than the first, but they're all very good. I'll stop now so as to avoid spoilers, though.

cos this is the Sherlock thread I will say what I have found, in my opinion Sherlock is instantly facinating and watchable, I cant wait for each episode, I love to watch Martin Freeman and see his relationship with Sherls develop. Unfortunately I just dont get the same excitement from NuWho, and I am pissed off as I expected to love it as well, but I am terribly underwhelmed by the whole thing. I think Martin deserves some awards and I cannot wait to see his Bilbo. Very Happy

Moffat and Gatiss said they felt that Sherlock tv and films had become so caught up in the nostalgia of the era; foggy streets, hansom cabs, street urchins etc that it had lost the thing that made it so appealing to audiences at the time- which was the releationship between Watson and Holmes which is the heart of the thing. It was the drvinig force behind their reboot, maintaining and putting the focus back onto that releationship.

I have sympathy for you Mrs Figg, really I do, this is exactly the same team, writers, directors etc who are making current Who and it saddens me you are in the minority who don't like it- I for one think Moffats Who when its at its best is easily the equal to Sherlock- difference is there are 14 episodes in a series of Who and 3 in Sherlock. And if I am completely honest I found the second episode in both seires of Sherlock to be a bit weak *although thats weak by Moffats standards not normal TV standards- the worst episodes of his Who (Pirates one, or the daleks episode) and Sherlock are still far better than 99% of tv but when the bar is set so high you notice the weak ones more I think.

I really wish there was some way to watch episodes of Sherlock that didnt involve uploading stuff. or buying dvds. I guess there is no such thing as a free lunch, unless its your birthday.

Me too. Generally speaking, since NRK has started sending Sherlock now. But I will still be seasons behind.
The episodes that have aired here (which is one so far...) can be see here, Sherlock - Nett TV but it is of course blocked if you don't have Norwegian proxy.

Boo Hoo I have only seen a couple of episodes in italian but I got instantly hooked, and I need more more more. I saw the first one where they meet, and the one with the mad taxi driver, and the one with the false painting, and the one with the Chinese jade hair thingy. and thats it. They dont show it anymore, and i dont know how many episodes I have missed, and it sucks. But i will end up buying the dvds from Amazon I suppose. Mad

You've watched the whole of series one, Mrs Figg. Smile There are another three episodes in series two that are already out on DVD in the UK. That'd make them Region 2 so they should work with Italian DVD players as well.

Yeah, both series are really short, only three episodes apiece. On the other hand, they're all movie-length and in my opinion very good, so I think it's more than worth it. Very Happy I hope you like series two; I found it even better than the first. cheers
