I like Kaizers Orchestra. Both with and without gas masks and oil barrel drums. Nod

I used to perform Medieval and Renaissance music. There's a period in the 1300's called the Ars Nova (lots of jokes there) which is best translated as the Medieval avant garde. Very cerebral stuff, much of it sounds like 20th century composers like Stravinsky, in fact the early 20th century composers were big fans of this period.

medieval music got me into Arabic (the real stuff, not the schlock that ends up on radio), then indian, chinese, etc. I still play Irish tinwhistle at times.

I like older American music, prefer new Orleans jazz to later stuff, Doowop to later stuff, etc. There is a lot of good classic Rock. I can not abide hip hop. I think country music is far better than its detractors want people to believe, especially the honky-tonk style. Popular music went through a bleak period in the '90s and early 00s, but now seems to be largely back on track.

I have been listening to Howard Shore and some of his pieces, love it. And to my absolute favorite Celtic singer Lorenna Mckennit, listening to her is like being swept away to another time and place.
And we had a dear friend visiting for a week from the west coast of our country and he happens to be an Elvis impersonator and totally awesome. It is rather unsettling to hear him and he sounds perfect. One of our family has a recording studio, so we listened to him cutting some cd's, all in our family play instruments and sing so we could do background and instrument and it was a wonderful break from real life and cares. We normally lean to classical and baroque and alternative and some metal as we had a metal band for the street for some years but have not time now.
Our friend played Teddy Bear and Return to Sender to our little one and she sat enthralled and oh yes a Johnny Cash song called I've Got Stripes and it was hilarious to see one of our family having to use his guitar in the country way and pling the strings in a strong one two beat. He plays left handed slap base and it was so funny to see him concentrating hard to make the song authentic Johnny Cash. So much fun. And if I didn't know the words to every single Elvis Presley tune before , I surely do now. Laughing

Ringdrotten swears by that movie and he's posted a few songs from it, which are definitely very good. Very Happy I think the soundtrack was composed by Nick Cave, who I'm not terribly familiar with, but who I've admired since I first heard his music, specifically the song "O Children", in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1, of all places. yep, Nick Cave, didn't know he had a song in Harry Potter xD I love the music.. don't know if it is because I saw the movie with it, but it kind of reminds of left houses on the country side, and in a kind of melancolic (spelled wrong I guess) feeling.

Yeah, I love Nick Cave's film music too! Very Happy
Especially the two ones you've already mentioned: "Jesse James" and "Harry Potter"!

I was sort of dissapointed, when there was no Nick Cave - song in the last Harry Potter-film Sad

Harry and Hermione were listening to "O Children" on the radio during Deathly Hallows Part 1. A bunch of people didn't like the scene because it wasn't in the book but I thought it was beautiful and one of the best scenes in the whole movie series, largely because of the song. Smile

And the full song.

People should be whining about all that's left out in the films, not added scenes that are good, like this one Mad

agree, I like the scene, but there is sooo much left out. They pretty much stuck to the book on the last movies, but the fifth.. oh my... Sad don't wanna even go there x(

I've been avoiding the HP movies since I didn't like the first one. I have seen one or two in a not logical order later, I sort of liked them because they reminded me of the books and what really happened (and I haven't read the books in ages now).

Didn't Ring create a HP thread?
