Yeah, the Mance one was good. I'm hopeful that he'll play a notable role in this season after having been stuck in the background for almost all of S4 due to the effects of showing stuff in more "real time" on the show. Ciaran Hinds is great in the role. I wish he'd been given more to work with as Aberforth Dumbledore too.

Yeah, I do really like Ciaran Hinds portrayal. And I do wish they had given him a bit more character development. I don't think it would have taken a lot of screentime necessarily, as there isn't all that much more there in the books. But it might have given the character a bit more substance.

I do hope he can sing though. Otherwise how are they going to ask him for a song about the rat cook.

I know season 1 was a bit, here's the first book as a tv series. While they gave themselves a good deal more freedom after that.

I guess I have a bit of an odd relationship with the show too, having seen the first three series unspoiled and then reading all the books before season 4. I do kind of wonder at my slightly more hesitant view of the show now in that context. There's probably some stuff in seson 2 and 3 I would have remarked upon if I had read the books first that I didn't. That said, there were some odd changes being made in season 4. All of which makes me very interested in seeing season 5.

The Night's King inclusion in the tv show is certainly one of those very enticing potential spoilers. To what degree is it a spoiler though? It's hard to know.

You've seen the light, Blue.

Laughing Well, seeing as I've been in both camps I probably shouldn't lambast anyone. Can one be both a book purist and a fan of the show? I feel thin, sort of stretched, like butter scraped over too much bread. Razz

I'm okay with being fans of both because GRRM has been so intimately involved with the show. Same with Harry Potter. LotR and the Hobbit do NOT get a pass though.

Of course.  That's where I fall with regards to LOTR.  I don't think they're especially good adaptations, but they're hella good movies, even with their flaws.  I think the two are totally different assessments.  JK Rowling's involvement didn't stop the HP movies from being hit-and-miss in terms of quality. And some adaptations do actually improve upon the source material in certain ways.

I'm loving the poster.  It will be so satisfying to see Tyrion meet Dany.  Sure, it won't go down the same as in the book, but after so long of Dany kicking around in her semi-separate plot, this should be great. I hope. Very Happy

Too rich, thought Tyrion, too beautiful. It is never wise to tempt the dragons. The drowned city was all around them. A half-seen shape flapped by overhead, pale leathery wings beating at the fog. The dwarf craned his head around to get a better look, but the thing was gone as suddenly as it had appeared.

Short interview with Jonathan Pryce.

Actor Jonathan Pryce has spilled a delicious little detail about Game Of Thrones season five – he only took on the character of High Sparrow because it's a game changing role.

The veteran actor enters the series in the fifth season, which starts on Foxtel's Showcase channel on April 13, as a High Septon who is considered an avatar of the gods.

Speaking from London, Pryce says that he's never been keen on "swords and sorcery" and he only signed-on because the character was extremely influential although he would not say how.

"If the role hadn't been what it turned out to be for High Sparrow, I probably would not have been involved," Pryce said.

"I remember starting out and my agent said 'does the character change the situation or is he just a functionary' and this character changes the situation."

In the lead-up to filming Game Of Thrones, Pryce made another period piece, playing a cardinal in Wolf Hall, which is set around the reign of Henry VIII, for BBC First.

Pryce has always been a fan of epic type productions, like Wolf Hall, but after filming wrapped on Game of Thrones, he had a change of mind about swords and sorcery shows.

"Once I started work on Games Of Thrones I was incredibly impressed with the organisation, the crew and they're really good at their job and story telling so I have become a fan of the show."

Pryce has never read the George R.R Martin's books on which the series is based but he did read the scripts when they were handed to him which is more than what he can say for one actor on set.

(Spoiler warning) "I read the script and some of the others had to, but I know one actor who hadn't read the script and he didn't know what was going to happen to him," Pryce said. "He died and he wasn't happy."

Highlighting this. I wonder who he's talking about.

(Spoiler warning) "I read the script and some of the others had to, but I know one actor who hadn't read the script and he didn't know what was going to happen to him," Pryce said. "He died and he wasn't happy."

Spoiler:
I'm guessing someone he crosses paths and interacts with. So..

Meryn Trant, Kevan, Pycell? Bronn, Loras or Lancel? Jamie? Any other male actors in the Kings Landing locations?

Spoiler:
Most likely one of the first three, but who knows. Shrugging

Weapon-making gives us some of the coolest behind-the-scenes videos.  It'd be nice to see more of the "making of" process from in the shop though.

Bluebottle wrote:Highlighting this. I wonder who he's talking about.

ADWD spoilers:
Jaime had better not die yet.  I assume Varys won't be in King's Landing to kill Kevan -- though maybe he'll part ways with Tyrion early in the season? -- so I wonder if he's still doomed and if so who will do the deed.
