Spoiler:
Hmm.. very suspicious business indeed scratch I think I'll have a chat with Arabella, shake her hands to check for fading blisters, stick my nose a little too close to her bosom and smell her perfume. Do I smell roses? [[[Now, what will Arabella's reaction to that be? what will I really smell? Is this approach a good idea at all? Let the die tell the truth of all this Very Happy ]]]

Round 5

Thursday Afternoon:
Mr. Crumblebuckie Only:
[7] After a half-hour's sit-down on a dewy bank near the road, you begin to feel a bit better. It takes some poking about along both sides of the gravel road for a distance, during which a farmer's wife stops on her way past and inquires if you have lost something, but eventually you find some footprints in the damp grass. They lead through some reeds that hide some swampy ground. Your boots suck and squelch through the mud and you nearly fall over once or twice (thankfully the woman is no longer watching).
The ground begins to rise again once near the woods.

Here the track becomes harder to follow as there is a footpath around the perimeter of the trees. You search through the woods but find nothing. As you are bent over a patch of mushrooms that has caught your eye, A bearded man with an axe over one shoulder and a rough-looking dog behind him hails you. You ask if he has seen any dark figure this way. He has a strange look about him, but he claims to have not seen anyone apart from you ("and my hound!") since yesterday. He invites you to a drink at the pub later that evening. (He says his name is Greybold.)
You palm him a few shillings, which he gratefully accepts.

Lady Rose Only:
[6] You feel a little.. indisposed after your activities this morning and decide to have a good long soak in the bath. The afternoon floats away as you enjoy a good read from your diary.

Ringo Only:
[7] You pass through the village (once again nearly running into Mr. Smith) and arrive outside the iron gates of Braxton Hall by lunchtime. You do not wish to fully reveal your identity so soon in your investigation, so you pass yourself off as a charity case to one of the grooms, who is caring for one of the horses. He seems kind, and instead of sending you packing he leads you around to the kitchen entrance where his sister, the head-cook, invites you inside for some soup and sandwiches.
From your perch near the fireplace you can hear the family members eating in the dining hall, and catch bits of conversation whenever a servant opens the serving doors on their way back and forth with various dishes. You catch something about "renovation" and the "church." But that is all you make out before the Butler finds you and hustles you outside.

Marigold Scroggins Only:
[12] You follow the old lady that so caught your eye. Discretely, from a distance, you watch as she visits the butchers, buys some cucumbers at the market, and picks up a loaf at the bakery. The townspeople seem to respect her and treat her well, and you catch her name in passing.
She is in fact the late Ashby's widowed sister, Vivienne Renaud! You follow her home to her address, mark its location for later use, and attempt to strike up a conversation.
She assumes you are begging and says, "No, no, I have no spare change. Leave off!"

You try again and offer her assistance with her parcels as she ventures up the steep steps to her house. "May I assist you, Madam, with your groceries?" You call out.
Mrs. Renaud has rather poor hearing, and, mistaking you for a gypsy woman, actually hears, "May you blister with the bites of horse-fleas!"

She turns around and casts a withering stare in your direction. Her fists clenched, her eyes wide.
"How... dare you. Horrible woman! You would curse me with your raggamuffin mutterings upon my own doorstep?" She drops a parcel and waves to a passing gentleman with her free hand.
"Mr. Smith! Oh Mr. Smith, drive away this unfettered Gypsy. She means to curse me into an early grave!"

A frowning gentleman on horseback rides up with a riding crop in hand. "WHAT!" he calls out. "Here TOO!?"

You know how to take care of yourself, and leap over some flower pots and down a nearby alley before things can get any worse!

Here's the map of the area again, for reference:

Good point, I have enough trouble myself trying to find old stuff.

I added the map, and ease-of-use links to the rules and characters pages.

Petty:
Like its owner, the axe was older and rather worn. The blade itself, however, was newly sharpened and gleaming.

Maybe at the start of every round you should put the map up again.

I'll have the map and those same links after every round now. I might even include all three rounds of the day every evening, as that's meant to be when you all get together and share what you've been up to. If I do you won't have to look back through the last few pages to read the day's rounds.

Spoiler:
I spend the day watching the men of the lumber yard cutting wood, I decide I want to leave off my bustle, throw my flowery hat in a puddle and disguise myself as a man, with the intention to call myself Freddy Farthingale librarian and antique book seller. Thus disguised I will apply for employment in the local town hall, with a view to unearthing secret documents of the local Masonic lodge. Dangerous work for a bearded lady.

Sorry this has taken so long (again!) Forest, I've been studying for an exam, so I haven't had the time until today

Spoiler:
Renovation and church, you say... what am I to make of that? scratch Could it have something to do with the case? I think I'll go to the town's renovation dude and ask him to do a little job for me, but I'll need to know what work he's been doing recently, so I can know whether or not he's any good... Cool

Haha, I loved re-reading the first game of this. I didn't really know what I was doing with the second game and I think I come across as over-bearing and not very fun in some parts. Sorry Mrs. Figg!

It's funny re-reading these first attempts of mine to GM a game after years since in which I've run games of D&D and Call of Cthulhu and Mouse Guard.

Thanks everyone who participated. It was fun!
